The Third Solander Symposium was in many ways a breakthrough for the pulp mill based biorefinery-concept.

Marco Mensink, Energy & Environment Director, Cepi, Confederation of European Paper Industries showed how the discussion in Brussels today is about financing and implementation.

Marie S. Arwidson, CEO, Swedish Forest Industries Federation, declared that producing for example BioDME is interesting for the forest industry.

Stellan Marklund, Professor of Environmental Chemistry, Umeå University presented the new big research programme Bio4Energy a cooperation with Umeå Uiversity, Bio4Energy is an investment in green energy sources based on forest raw materials. The project also includes Luleå Technical University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. In addition, industry partners such as Processum in Örnsköldsvik and ETC with Solander Science Park in Piteå are associated with the project.
